From Basement Beginnings to Industry Benchmark
2015
A Vision for Challenging Surfaces
In Vienna’s 23rd district, mechanical engineer Thomas Prorok and polymer chemist Dr. Gerald Ullrich joined forces to tackle one of the toughest challenges in manufacturing: applying high durable technical markings to tire sidewalls. Tires inherently resist conventional labels, inks and adhesives due to their complex elastomeric chemistry and surface structure, and they endure hundreds of stretch-and-compress cycles per kilometer—conditions under which standard solutions simply fail.
2016
From Basement Prototype to Serial Production
In Dr. Ullrich’s home workshop, the first-generation LTA tire_dots were born: ultra-thin, solvent-free heat transfers designed for fully automated application onto finished, vulcanised tires. By 2016, UP-Labels had moved into its first production hall in Vienna and begun serial production. Despite early financial constraints, live demonstrations to leading tire manufacturers secured pivotal partnerships before the end of the year.
2017-2024
Four Generations of Robust Marking Technology
Over four successive product generations, UP-Labels refined its transfer technology to master the tire’s most demanding areas—sidewalls with pronounced contours, textured structures and extreme mechanical stress. Each iteration improved adhesion without petrochemical solvents or traditional adhesives, reduced application temperature and pressure requirements, and enhanced long-term durability under real-world conditions. Today, our LTA tire_dots set the global standard for marking even the most intricate and chemically challenging tire surfaces across both OEM and aftermarket production lines.
2025
Expansion into Custom Micro-Decals
Building on our core marking expertise, we developed full-color, customisable micro-decals under the UP-Tireworks brand. These high-resolution heat transfers—first time showcased at TireTech Expo 2025—allow premium logos and decorative elements to be applied automatically and precisely onto the tire flank. Further decorative features are now in advanced testing and will soon be available to enthusiasts and niche manufacturers alike.
Headquarters & R&D
All research, development, and production take place under one roof at our Vienna headquarters on Altmannsdorfer Straße 154–156. With over 50% of our team dedicated to R&D, UP-Labels continues to pioneer sustainable, high-performance solutions for the world’s most demanding surfaces.
